With all the excitement of the party photos, I forgot to include the oh-so-important stats.
Sydney is now 20 lbs 9.5 ozs (42nd percentile) and 30 inches long. (the 78th percentile).
Apparently we grew UP, not OUT this time :)
Of course, given the fact that I feel like I am feeding a teenage boy with the amount that Sydney is eating these days, I think the weight may catch back up soon!

I'll have my cake and eat it too...
I think it's safe to say that Sydney enjoyed her 'smash cake'.

She started off a bit slow.
Giving it a try.
"Hey, this stuff is pretty good"
Digging in.
"Look, I have it all over my hands. Can you see?"
Yes, that is cake in her ear.
The entire high chair had to be taken apart and hosed off :)

Birthday Girl
Sydney turned 1 last week! All that talk about time flying by really is true.
Happy Birthday Sydney!
At 1, Sydney is walking (and sometimes falling down :) ).
Bye-bye and Hi are really the only words that she says. EVERYTHING in the house is 'dada'... and 'mama' only comes if she's crying (and even then, I'm not sure that she means anything by it).
But she certainly gets her point across with sign language for "more", emphatic pointing or pushing something away if she's done with it.
She is blowing us away by how much she understands. She can find just about any toy that we ask her to go get, she'll head to the bathroom when we tell her it's time to take a bath and she loves to point to the dogs when you ask her where the puppies are.
Sydney still loves to eat and sleep. Still rocking 2 (sometimes 3) naps a day. Given how busy she is while she's awake, I guess that isn't a big surprise. Sometimes she wears me out enough for a nap too!
We're transitioning from formula to milk and eating anything that Dan and I put in front of her.
Some of our favorite games these days are turning light switches off and on and playing ball with the dogs (she'll pick the ball up, then take it over to and offer it to the dog, then clap once the dog takes it from her).
We had a fun party this past weekend to celebrate Little Miss:
Ready to open presents.
Checking out her new books and toys.
Reading her cards.
More cards to read.
Her new toys were so exciting that she didnt even notice that someone put the bow in her hair.
And of course there was cake! :)

Happy Easter!
For Easter this year, we participated in the tour-of-homes that we have found ourselves doing every holiday.
After church, we went to Dan's parent's house for lunch and then to my parent's house for dinner-- lot of yummy food and good family time.
oh my, she is cute.
cousins
I wish you could see their feet in this photo. Neither Sydney nor Joshua is wearing shoes. As if there was any doubt that they are related....

11 months!?!
Oh wow. How is my little baby 11 months old?? 11 is almost 12. And 12 means that she's 1. Umm, when did that happen? I need to get busy planning a birthday party!
We are quite a busy little lady at 11 months. We're still not quite walking, but I wouldn't be surprised if it comes pretty soon. In the meantime, she's become extremely quick at crawling and she can pretty much get into any and everything. The stairs prove no obstacle and she recently figured out that she can open all of her dresser drawers to pull things out.
She can say 'buh buh' and wave when we say bye-bye. We're still working on using it at the proper time, instead of, oh for example, during the middle of dinner, when we'll need to take a break from eating to say 'buh buh' a few times.
Sydney has 3 teeth (with the 4th to make an appearance fairly soon, I think).
She is a great eater! She has yet to meet a food she doesn't like. (Well, green beans were iffy there for a while, but after much deliberation, she's decided that they are okay.) No more baby food in this house! Sydney just eats table food (just cut up real small) and loves it. We're still perfecting the art of getting the food into our mouth without dropping it or smearing it everywhere, but she's actually doing pretty well at keeping herself clean during a meal!
And she's still a fabulous sleeper: she still takes 2 (sometimes 3) naps a day. No complaints here!

"What do you mean I can't pull on the flowers?"
"If I smile really pretty, THEN can I pull the flowers?"
Love her.
So pensive.
And here I thought we'd make it another couple of years before she thought I was lame:
"Seriously mom. You are so not cool."
Yup - she's a keeper :)
